USC grad photo, Doheny Library, effortless posing

She's looking down instead of at the camera, weight shifted onto one hip, hand resting on the railing rather than posed stiffly at her side. It's a small set of choices, but it's exactly what separates a portrait that feels like a candid moment from one that reads as someone standing still, waiting for the shutter. I give a lot of direction to get there — where to look, how to shift weight, when to relax the shoulders — not to make someone perform, but to help them stop thinking about the camera entirely.

Doheny Memorial Library's carved entrance gives the frame its texture — the dark bronze doors, the ornate stonework — while the early morning light keeps everything warm without overpowering her white dress and red-and-gold sash.

This is the kind of shot I aim for in every graduation session: not a stiff cap-and-gown standby, but something that makes an everyday person look like they've done this in front of a camera a hundred times before.

Location: University of Southern California.
